Josep Roca Sastre (1928-1997) was one of the most relevant artists of realism in Catalonia in the 20th century. He began his career in Paris in 1956 where he spent two years on a scholarship from the French Institute and where he won first prize in the Jeune Peinture competition. Later, his works were characterized by an urban and intimate theme, with a very personal style that reflected an inner world marked by modernism and inspired by the past and corners of his own studio in Barcelona.
