Pere Borrell del Caso (1835-1910) known for his famous painting “Fleeing from Criticism” in 1874, a magnificent exponent of trompe l’oeil. He was a painter of portraits, which constituted the majority of his commissions, and of religious scenes for various temples in Barcelona and Gerona. As a master he influenced the realism of famous painters such as Ricard Canals, Xavier Nogués and Josep Maria Sert.
