José Ramón Zaragoza (1874-1949) belongs to the generation of Asturian artists who tried to react against the realistic painting of the creators born around the 1860s. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Oviedo, in 1897 he went to Madrid with a scholarship to complete his training at the Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving. In 1904, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Spanish Academy in Rome. His work stands out for a clear focus on portraits and later, the landscapes of French Brittany.
